STANFORD (4/26) -- A few members of the UC Santa Cruz track and field squad got an extra training run before next week's Coast-To-Coast Conference Championships.
Friday night at the Payton Jordan Invitational, the Banana Slugs participated against Division I competition in the 800m, 1,500m, and 5,000m races.
Aaron Hillberg won his section of the 800m in 1:53.62, while Holden Spencer was fourth in 1:54.50. In the 1,500m, All-American Eric Anderson placed second with a time of 3:45.77. That lowered by 2.8 seconds the school record set by Anderson at the Bryan Clay Invite two weeks ago. Eric Jackson finished the night with an 11th-place finish in the 5,000m, crossing the tape in 14:26.21. It was a new season-best for Jackson.
The four will be favorites to place next weekend when the whole team heads to Salisbury, Maryland. The Banana Slug men finished in third place at last season's conference outdoor meet.
