School records fall as T&F conclude Chico Invitational

CHICO- UC Santa Cruz Track and Field finished the Chico State Invite in style, with several personal records setting the tone for a great day for the Banana Slugs.
Amaya Cummins broker her own school record in the 100m dash after she finished fourth in 12.50. Caitlin Donovan placed fifth in the 400m race with a new school record of 59.27, and Sophie Jimenez was eighth in the same event with a new PR of 1:00.80, the fourth-best mark in program history. Mae Stafford was tenth in 1:01.33, and Jenna Borzellino's new PR of 1:10.39 was good for 13th.
Jordan Baden (5:02.83) and Sofia Placias (5:19.53) both had PRs in the 800m, and Akira Jones (17.01) and Isha Kasanagottu (17.11) both achieved PRs in the 100 hurdles. Kasanagottu also had a PR in the High Jump, clearing 1.50m (4ft 11 in.) to take sixth. Whitney Porter added a new PR in the Javelin to her weekend of amazing throws with a toss of 22.60m (74' 2 in).
For the men, Eduardo Palma's PR of 4:08.75 put him first in his section of the 1,500m. Holden Spencer was third in his section with a PR of 3:52.85 while Camden Jaureguy had a PR of 4:00.16. Kyland Minyard finished seventh in the Discus with a  PR toss of 35.63 (116 ft 11 in.). Sotirios Kougiouris was fourth in the 110 hurdles in a PR of 15.89, and Evan Hofstetter was fourth in the 400m hurdles in 57:31. Hoftsetter then teamed with Jonathan Stenger, Jack Kibort and James Contini for the second-best 4x100 relay in school history with a time of 42.94.
Overall, the men placed second as a team with 92 points while the women tallied 81 for fourth place. The Banana Slugs next have conference titles to compete for when they go to the Coast-To-Coast Championships in Maryland in two weeks.
