UC Santa Cruz had the better possession and chances in the first half. The Banana Slugs thought they went ahead after 20 minutes, but the goal from a corner kick was waved off for a foul. UC Santa Cruz had another chance 14 minutes until half with great combination play, but couldn't make the final touch on the far post.
Tyler Allred had the last good chance with five minutes left, but it was smothered by the Chapman goalkeeper.
It took just 27 seconds in the second half for the Banana Slugs to finally get on the board when
Jackson Chandler's free header from
Derek Uemura's cross gave UC Santa Cruz the lead. It was Chandler's first career goal.
Zander Crawford almost made it 2-0 in the 60th minute, but his half-volley from
Michael Braun's cross was cleared off the line by the Panthers.
Chapman almost got the game's last shot, but the Panthers committed a foul in a goalmouth scramble with under twenty seconds left and the Banana Slugs let the clock run out. UC Santa Cruz finished with a 13-8 shot advantage. Goalkeeper
