ROCHESTER, NY (5/26)-- Shea Wissler placed 11th in the Decathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by St. John Fisher University.
Wissler finished the ten events with a score of 6,473 points. The senior is the program's first male athlete to make two NCAA Championship appearances, after his participation at the Indoor Championship in March. Wissler finished Thursday's first five events with a PR in the 400m of 51.57, the 8th best run of the event. That put him in tenth place going into Day Two.
On Friday, he opened with a time of 15.63 in the 110m Hurdles, just 0.01 off his personal record. Wissler threw 36.1 meters in the Discus, cleared 3.8m on the Pole Vault, threw 44.4m in the Javelin and closed the day running the 1500m in 4:46.93 to earn 3,066 points over the final five events.
The tightly contested field of 22 athletes had less than 200 points separating sixth place through eleventh. Mitch Stegeman of UW Eau Claire won the title with a score of 7,165. Stegeman placed fourth in the event last year and was national runner-up in 2021 when he faced another Banana Slug in Conrad Pereira.
