Men's Basketball end roadtrip with win at Caltech

PASADENA-– The UC Santa Cruz Men's Basketball team played the California Institute of Technology and won 66-49.Â
UC Santa Cruz started the game with Treyson Keating getting the first points on the scoreboard on an "And-1" (3-2, Â 18:53). Caltech then was in the lead for the majority of the half until the Banana Slugs brought the intensity up. Keating made two free throw shots tying the score (16-16, 5:15). Then, Nelson Etuk made back-to-back layups putting the Banana Slugs in the lead with the score being 22-16 (3:13). The second first half ended with a buzzer-beater three-pointer made by Zino Okah making the score 29-23 (0:00).Â
The second half started with a shot from Ian McCloskey (31-23, 19:43). The Banana Slugs continued to stay in the lead with beautiful shots and layups from McCloskey, Zach Granberry, Etuk, and Tyler Kessinger. An outstanding play was made by a pass from Caden Breznikar to Jack Morris, who made a three-pointer making the score 58-42 (4:19). The second half ended with the score being 66-49.
Etuk led the Banana Slugs with 16 points with 2 steals, 3 blocks and 3 rebounds. McCloskey got 12 points with three rebounds. Joseph Espy got 8 rebounds. Altogether, the Banana Slugs had great defense with five blocks, six steals, and forced 13 Caltech turnovers.Â
The Banana Slugs (3-2) will next play Menlo College on November 21st at Kaiser Permanente Arena at 12:30 PM.Â
