School record set at Day One of La Verne Invite

LOS ANGELES-- A school-record fell and other top times were turned in as UC Santa Cruz Swim and Dive opened their weekend at the La Verne Winter Invite held at East Los Angeles College.
Competing against 14 other schools, the women's 200 Free Relay quartet of Coralie Norenberg, Tereza Shea, Maddy Gruender and Kaitlyn Armstrong set a new school record of 1:36.42 to place sixth. It was 0.12 seconds better than the mark set last year. The 400 Medley Relay consisting of Gruender, Gabrielle Nguyen, Kirsten Boyle and Norenberg were 7th in 3:56.05, just 0.17 seconds off the school record.
Individually, Gruender won the B Final in the 500 Free in 5:02.15 to place ninth. Norenberg was 13th in the 50 Free with a time of 24.11.
Highlights for the men's team included Luke Scanlon placing tenth in the 200 IMÂ in 1:55.87, while the 200 Free Relay squad of Massimo Reyna, Bryson Schmid, Adam Sinclair, and Charlie Hussain were sixth in 1:25.47. Ethan Porter, Karsten Hsiao, Jude Robinson and Schmid were eighth in the 400 Medley Relay in 3:27.76.
The Invite continues Saturday beginning at 9:00am.
