Men's soccer falls to Saint John's on late goals

Box Score The UC Santa Cruz men's soccer team had an 11-9 shot advantage and a 5-4 corner advantage, but could not convert their opportunities in front of the net in a 2-0 loss to Saint John's of Minnesota on Monday afternoon to close the UCSC Labor Day Tournament.
It was the first game between the two schools since 2004. The Banana Slugs fell to 0-1-2 as the Johnnies (2-0-1) converted a pair of short-range cleanup shots on their first and last shots of the second half for the winning margin.

The Banana Slugs had several chances in the second half but couldn't get the last touch. The best opportunity was in the 71st minute, when Adrian Jacobs got a head on a corner but hit the cross bar, and Itay Rabinovich's rebound attempt was blocked.  UC Santa Cruz pushed everyone forward for a corner with 90 seconds left but could not get a clear shot before Saint John's cleared out the ball to run out the clock.

UC Santa Cruz next hits the road for a five-game road trip, beginning Thursday the 8th at old rival Cal State East Bay.
