Martel-Phillips top ten finish led the UC Santa Cruz women
Banana Slugs beat the heat and several Division I opponents at UOP Invite

LODI-Â The nationally ranked UC Santa Cruz Cross Country teams ended September with another superb showing at the University of the Pacific Invite held at the Micke Grove Golf Course.
The 16th-ranked men finished third, while the No. 21 women were 4th, with just three Division I schools ahead of the Banana Slugs.
 Riley Martel-Phillips led the women with a 9th place finish in the 6K with a time of 22:26.89. Ash Baudin was 17th in 22:42.1. Iris Abegglen completed the Banana Slugs trio in the top 25 with a time of 22:51.0, good enough for 23rd.

Other standouts were Hanna Hekkanen (34th, 23:22.0), Helena Janku (40th, 23:30.9), Cheryl Chuang (46th, 23:45.3), Andrea Gallardo ( 51st, 23:50.2) and Sage Simms (54th, 23:55.6).
Completing the Banana Slug contingent were Monica Fonseca (24:16.4), Lindsay Rule (24:30.3 ), Emma Wirz (24:32.9), Emma Cadena (24:51.8), and Frieda Cedillo (25:04.2).
The women outpointed two Division II teams and five Division I schools, including host UOP.
The men put on a similarly impressive showing in the 8K race as they placed better than five Division I institutions. Casey Orton had a new PR of 25:26.8, good enough for 11th out of the 95 runners. Eric Jackson was 13th in 25:31.8, followed closely by Raymond Ingersoll in 14th (25:33.5) and Luke Holland in 15th (25:33.8)
