Men and Women both set records for team time, Jackson breaks school 8K record
ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS- The nationally-ranked UC Santa Cruz cross country teams got to show off their talent at the Augustana Interregional Invite.
Â
Facing off against a predominantly Division III field for the first time this season, the UC Santa Cruz men placed seventh out of the 27 schools. The women were ninth out of 25.
Â
Reigning Conference Champion Eric Jackson led the Banana Slugs with a 22nd-place finish in 24:21.7. The mark was a new PR for him and the fastest 8K in school history. Raymond Ingersoll was 36th in a new PR of 24:34.7, which is the 3rd fastest 8K ever by a Banana Slug. Luke Holland was 43rd in 24:40.5, good for the fourth fastest time.
Walter Teitelbaum was 49th in 24:44.8 and Casey Orton was 57th with his PR of 24:58.3.
The new times at the top of the career list also meant the team record was shattered. The top five runners averaged 24:40 for a team time of 2:03.20, 2.23 seconds better than the mark set last year at Stanislaus. Teitelbaum, Ingersoll and Jackson were also on that record-setting quintet.
Also running well for UC Santa Cruz were Oliver Chang (66th, 25:06.0), Hayden Johnson (111th, 25:36.3), Holden Spencer (123rd, 25:47.9), and Eric Anderson (127th, 25:50.0).
Â
For the women, Riley-Martel-Phillips paced UC Santa Cruz with an 11th place finish. Her time of 21:39.4 was just 0.4 seconds off her PR and was her second sub-21:40 6K this year. Ash Baudin was 0.7 seconds behind Martel-Phillips in 12th place.
Faith Dyogi was 47th in 22:36, Iris Abegglen crossed in 22:55.5 for 74th and Andrea Gallardo finished in 23:03.9 to place 87th.
Â
The women's team time of 1:51.54 was also a new school record, 1.64 seconds better than what UC Santa Cruz ran at last year's C2C Championships.Â
Martel-Phillips and Baudin led the Banana Slugs in Illinois.Monica Fonseca (116th, 23:32.9), Hanna Hekkanen (122nd, 23:40.0), Sage Simms (127th, 23:44.9)Â and Cheryl Chuang (132nd, 23:51.0) rounded out the Banana Slug squad.
