Stanciu Storms to Finish Line to Lead Slugs at UC Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The UC Santa Cruz women's cross country team earned an 18th place finish at the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday morning, finishing with 468 points. Notably, the Banana Slugs defeated regional foe, No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer, who finished in 23rd place with 633 points. The Banana Slugs were led by Elena Stanciu who turned heads as she crossed the finish line in 20:25.3, finishing in third overall and second among collegiate competitors. Additionally, Stanciu made a statement in her season debut, finishing as the top finisher out of all NCAA Division III programs. UC Santa Cruz also saw a top 100 performance out of Renee Khuong who crossed the line in 21:29.6. The Banana Slugs will be back in action on October 17th with two squads in action as they compete at the Augustana Interregional Invitational and the Bronco Invite.
