Men's soccer can't finish comeback in loss at Dominican

Late goal not enough in 2-1 loss to Div. II rivals

Santiago scores his first goal for UCSC
Box Score SAN RAFAEL - UC Santa Cruz dropped a hard-fought 2-1 game at Division II Dominican University on Tuesday afternoon to fall to 0-2-1 on the season.
After the Penguins controlled the game flow at the start, the Banana Slugs finally got a chance in the 39th minute, but Davin Cox's shot went high. The Penguins finally took the lead 3:50 before halftime on a corner kick. UCSC had a chance to tie it right at the gun but Kailas Dhond's shot was saved, preserving Dominican's 1-0 halftime lead.

The hosts had more possession on the restart and eventually converted a chance from 18 yards with 19:10 remaining to make it 2-0. Liam Laird tried to reply for UCSC two minutes later but his shot went wide. The Banana Slugs eventually got on the scoreboard with 13 minutes left when Paolo Santiago pounced on an attempted clearance for his first career goal. However, UCSC couldn't get off another shot that would have tied it and the Penguins held on for the win.
Arman Salimi finished with four saves in goal.

UCSC returns to Division III action on Saturday when they host George Fox, La Verne  and Whitman in the UCSC Tournament at the Lower East Field.
