Late Goal Pushes Blues Past Banana Slugs 1-0

SPOKANE (9-6) – Playing the first of two matches in the Pacific Northwest, UC Santa Cruz fell 1-0 Whitman College on a late goal.

The first half was very physical, yielding sixteen fouls between the two teams. In the second half, the two teams would play another physical half.

With 9:52 remaining in regulation, Whitman's Jadon Bachtold scored off a pass from Joe Thompson to give the Blues a 1-0 advantage. The Banana Slugs had a chance to tie the match with 3:16 left, but Kailas Dhond's header was saved by Blues' goalkeeper Owen Davis-Bower.

Whitman had a 25-4 shot advantage for the game. UCSC goalie Andrew Pimentel had seven saves and passed Jared Wheeler for fourth place in school history for career saves. The Banana Slugs will finish up their trip to Washington on Sunday as they take on host Whitworth University at 1 pm.
