SANTA CRUZ (10-30) In the Slugs' last home game before heading to the ACAA tournament in New Hampshire, UC Santa Cruz (7-7-3) played hard for a full 90 minutes but ultimately fell short in their 2-3 loss after an exciting match against Division II Dominican (5-7-1).

The Slugs were in control during the first half, with 10 shots. UCSC had already had 4 opportunities to score by the time the 20 minute mark hit. At 20:58, Kailas Dhond saw another opening but his shot was wide. At 24:50, Liam Linas assisted Dhond, who redeemed himself with a beautiful goal for UCSC to take the 1-0 lead. The Penguins were unrelenting however, and reacted to the goal by UCSC with a goal of their own at 27:31 off a corner. The Slugs and Dominican went into halftime tied 1-1. 

Coming into the second half, at 57:20, the Penguins got a steal and were able to score to make it 1-2. After another steal and shot, however, goalkeeper Gerry Delorie was able to get a save. Ari Sidman scored on a penalty kick at the 63rd minute after Jake Rhodes was brought down in the box to tie it up at 2-2. Coming off the bench, goalie Zachary Lamb saved ball after ball, totaling four saves, before the Penguins scored a short range looper for their third goal of the game at 76:40.

Dominican finished with an 18-14 edge in shots, including 11-4 in the second half. UCSC's three goalkeepers combined for 9 saves.

The Banana Slugs played together, and although they did not come up with the win, they are better prepared for their ACAA tournament this weekend. 

UCSC will travel to New Hampshire to play Pine Manor at 11am Saturday, November 2.
