NCAA Division II #23 Sonoma State Sweeps Banana Slugs

SANTA CRUZ (2-6) – The Banana Slugs played their second consecutive home match as they took on ITA NCAA Division II #23 Sonoma State University. The Seawolves won every single match as they swept the Banana Slugs 9-0.
In their last match, the Banana Slugs lost 9-0 to University of La Verne while the Seawolves defeated Holy Names University 8-1 yesterday in Rohnert Park.
The Seawolves won all six singles matches. The #1 singles match (Jordyn Kearney of Sonoma State vs. Sylvia Brummitt of UC Santa Cruz), the #2 singles match (Jensyn Warren of the Seawolves vs. Islay Fossett of the Banana Slugs) and the #3 singles match (Amanda Zuidema of the Seawolves vs. Zoe Brook of the Banana Slugs) finished with each match having a 6-0, 6-1 score in favor of the Seawolves. Like the #1-#3 singles matches, the #4 singles match (Karlee Budge of Sonoma State vs. Ashley Brudzinski of UC Santa Cruz) and #5 singles match (Julia Rea of the Seawolves vs. Stephanie Graziano of the Banana Slugs) finished with a 6-1, 6-0 score in favor of the Seawolves' representative. The tightest singles match of the day was the #6 singles match between Mariann Bukich of Sonoma State and Amy Leslie of UC Santa Cruz. Bukich defeated Leslie 6-0, 6-2.
The Seawolves won all three doubles matches. In the #2 doubles match, the Seawolves' team of Bukich and Zuidema defeated the Banana Slugs' team of Brudzinski and Middleton-Brook 8-1. In the #3 doubles match, Sonoma State's team of Budge and Fazekas defeated UC Santa Cruz's team of Graziano and Melanie Waechtler 8-0. The tightest doubles match was the #1 doubles match between Kearney and Warren of the Seawolves and Brummitt and Fossett of the Banana Slugs. The Seawolves won the match 8-2.
