
Hawks Sweep Banana Slugs

SANTA CRUZ (2-14) – The Banana Slugs played their second consecutive NCAA Division II member as they took on Holy Names University. The Hawks won every single match as the Hawks won 9-0.
Both teams lost their last match. The Banana Slugs lost 9-0 to NCAA Division II #23 Sonoma State University last Saturday in Santa Cruz while the Hawks lost 6-3 to Stanislaus State University on Friday in Turlock.
The Hawks won all six singles matches. In the #1 singles match between Sylvia Brummitt of UC Santa Cruz and Chelsea Smithback of Holy Names, Smithback defeated Brummitt 6-0, 6-3. In the #3 singles match between Ashley Brudzinski of the Banana Slugs and Rutendo Gwaze of the Hawks, Gwaze defeated Brudzinski 6-0, 6-2. In the #4 singles match between Stephanie Graziano of UC Santa Cruz and Julia Golub of Holy Names, Golub won 6-2, 6-0. In the #5 singles match between Amy Leslie of the Banana Slugs and Mariel Bautista of the Hawks, Bautista won 6-0, 6-0. In the #6 singles match between Melanie Waechtler of UC Santa Cruz and Taylor Barajas of Holy Names, Barajas defeated Waechtler 6-1, 6-0. The tightest singles match of the day was the #2 singles match between Stella Dominik of Holy Names and Zoe Brook of UC Santa Cruz. Dominik defeated Brook 6-2, 7-6.
