Banana Slugs Sweep Cyclones

SANTA CRUZ (2-19) – The Banana Slugs played the final match in a four match homestand as they hosted Mills College. The Banana Slugs won every single match to sweep the Cyclones 9-0.
Both teams lost their last match. The Banana Slugs lost 9-0 to NCAA Division II member Holy Names University on Sunday in Santa Cruz while the Cyclones lost 9-0 to Santa Rosa Junior College yesterday in Oakland.
The Banana Slugs won all six singles matches. Both the #1 singles match (Ashley Brudzinski of UC Santa Cruz versus Christine Wu of Mills) and the #4 singles match (Eva Busiek of the Banana Slugs versus Rebecca Montano of the Cyclones) finished 6-1, 6-0 in favor of the Banana Slugs' representative. The #2 singles match (Stephanie Graziano of UC Santa Cruz versus Gwendolynn Fernstrom of Mills) and the #5 singles match (Amy Leslie of the Banana Slugs versus Jade Escalante of the Cyclones) both finished 6-0, 6-0 in favor of the Banana Slugs' participant. In the #6 singles match, Melanie Waechtler of UC Santa Cruz defeated Jade Le of Mills 6-0, 6-1. The tightest singles match of the day was the #3 singles match between Callie Matthews of UC Santa Cruz and Roxana Farmer of Mills. Matthews defeated Farmer 6-4, 6-2.
The Banana Slugs won all three doubles matches. Both the #1 doubles match (Brudzinski/Graziano of UC Santa Cruz versus Farmer/Fernstrom of Mills) and the #3 doubles match (Leslie/Waechtler of the Banana Slugs versus Le/Montano of the Cyclones) ended with an 8-1 score in favor of UC Santa Cruz. The tightest doubles match was the #2 match between Busiek and Matthews of UC Santa Cruz and Escalante and Wu of Mills. Busiek and Matthews defeated Escalante and Wu 8-3.
