Banana Slugs Win 9-0 over Mills

SANTA CRUZ, CA -- UC Santa Cruz took on fellow NCAA Division III opponent Mills College this afternoon in Santa Cruz. The Banana Slugs swept all six singles matches and three double matches for a 9-0 win over the Cyclones.
Both teams lost their last match. The Banana Slugs lost to Holy Names University 5-4 on Sunday in Oakland and the Cyclones lost 6-3 to Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill also on Sunday.
In the #1 singles match, Courtney Lymburner of the Banana Slugs defeated Noelani Meteyry of the Cyclones 6-2, 6-0. The #4 singles match (Islay Fossett of UC Santa Cruz vs. Christine Wu of Mills) and the #6 singles match (Stephanie Graziano of UC Santa Cruz vs. Priscilla Son of Mills) each finished with 6-0, 6-0 set scores in favor of UC Santa Cruz. The #2 singles match (Sylvia Brummitt of UC Santa Cruz vs. Alice Hewitt of Mills) and the #3 singles match (Soph Lundeberg of UC Santa Cruz vs. Christina Gnong of Mills) also finished with the same set scores as each of the UC Santa Cruz representatives won 6-0, 6-1. The tightest singles match of the afternoon was the #5 singles match between Zoe Middleton-Brook of UC Santa Cruz and Sophia Wasteneys of Mills. Middleton-Brook won the match 6-1, 6-3.
In the #1 doubles match, the Banana Slugs' team of Katy Collins and Lymburner defeated the Cyclones' team of Gnong and Meteyry 8-1. In the #2 doubles match, the Banana Slugs' team of Brummitt and Fossett defeated the Cyclones' team of Hewitt and Wu 8-1. In the #3 doubles match, the Banana Slugs' team of Lundeberg and Middleton-Brook defeated the Cyclones' team of Gwendolynn Fernstrom and Wasteneys 8-1.
