The Men's Soccer team has opened up the season dominating their opponents with a 3-0 record. On opening day the Slugs faced DIII Augsburg College, where freshman Julian Alvarez of Santa Cruz shined in his colligate debut scoring two goals. junior Stephen Wondolowski scored the first goal for the slugs off a penalty kick, and the Slugs beat Augsburg 3-0.

On Saturday in Hayward, the Men's Soccer team would get out quick with a 4-0 lead 16 minutes into the game against DIII Central College (Iowa). Goals were scored by Jeff Meyer (assist Adam Smarte), Eric Tozer, Bryan Baird (assist Eric Tozer), David Frank (assist Bryan Baird), and Adam Smarte added in one of his own in the second half, with an assist by Anthony Scarlett. The Slugs ended the game with a 5-0 victory.

On Labor Day, in front of 200 fans at the East Remote field, the Slugs pulled out another commanding 5-0 victory over Willamette University. Coming into the game both teams were 2-0, the Bearcats were coming off a season opening 1-0 OT victory over Cal State East Bay and a 2-0 victory over Augsburg. It was an even match-up in the first half until Eric Tozer scored the first goal in the 36th minute off an assist by Stephen Wondolowski. Credit goes to the Bearcats goalkeeper Dane Meier for keeping the game close with 6 remarkable saves in the first half (he ended the game with 10).

But the Slugs would be unstoppable in the second half.

David Cochrane beat a Bearcat defender 1 on 1 to put away his first goal of the season. Alex Mandel also got his first goal of the season heading in a David Cochrane corner kick. And four minutes later, it was practically deja vu when Bryan Baird headed in a David Frank corner kick. Then with 8 minutes left in the game, Harry Abraham got his first goal of the season to finish the Bearcats off. The Slugs took 35 shots and 18 shots on goal, while only allowing the Bearcats 1 shot in 90 minutes.

The Slugs play their 4th home game of the 2005 season this Friday at 3pm versus Linfield College.
