In August of 2022, David Kamau officially joined the UC Santa Cruz Coaching staff. A Santa Cruz County native himself, Coach Kamau grew up playing for the Santa Cruz Breakers as a Youth and for the Academy. He then played for Cabrillo College from 2011-2012 before transferring to Division II Notre Dame de Namur in 2013.

With aspirations to play abroad, David moved on to play professionally in the Philippines Football League (PFL) after graduating from NDNU in 2016. He had a spell with Ilocos United FC in 2017, before jumping into the world of soccer analytics with Impect - a German-based start-up company.

Shortly after returning to the US in 2020, David spent two seasons coaching for the Santa Cruz Breakers.
