Shawn Gallup is in his 6th season at UC Santa Cruz overall, and fourth season as the Associate Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach. Shawn Gallup joined the staff in 2016 as a Volunteer Assistant Coach, before being promoted to an Assistant Coach during the 2017 season.
“Coach Gallup was an incredible asset to our program last year, and I was excited to get to hire him as my assistant for the 2017 Cross Country season,” said Head Coach David Klech. “Shawn does an incredible job of connecting with the student-athletes and excels in his attention to detail, injury management, and customizable training plans.”
Shawn has worked primarily with the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams and Distance Runners during the Track & Field season. Shawn’s assistance was critical to the development of the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country success and growth of the distance program.
Shawn is a Certified USATF Level 1 Coach. He has previously coached at Monterey Peninsula College and University of West Florida. Shawn holds a B.S. in Sports medicine with emphasis in athletic training from West Florida, where he was a 4-year letterwinner on a cross country scholarship and two-time All-Conference.
He ran Track and cross country in high school in Pacific Grove and Mililani, HI. While in Hawai'i he won the 1996 state championship for 3200 and set School records for 1600 and 3200. Post collegiately he was active in Triathlon, from sprint distance to Ironman.
