Kian van der Meer joined the staff as a full time assistant coach at UC Santa Cruz in March of 2026. The former Banana Slug played two seasons for the program, graduating in 2024. Following graduation, van der Meer served as a goalkeeper coach with the Breakers MLS NEXT Academy, and currently holds the position as the Director of Goalkeeping at Los Gatos United. In 2025 Kian returned to the Banana Slugs for the 2025 season as the goalkeeper coach and camp coordinator.
