
Ngo Drops Career High 33 Points to Lead UCSC to Victory Over Simpson

SANTA CRUZ, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz women's basketball team earned a 74-62 victory over the Simpson Red Hawks on Thursday evening with Emilie Ngo dropping a career high 33 points with six assists, five steals, three rebounds and one block. Ngo's 33 points tie for the fourth most points scored by a Banana Slug in a single game and the first to do so since the 2021-22 season. Notably, Emilie Ngo's 33 points tie her with UC Santa Cruz Hall of Fame Inductee Kayleigh Calandri who dropped 33 points in 2008.

How It Happened
The Banana Slugs couldn't be stopped in the early moments of the contest as they jumped out to a 12-1 lead with buckets from Katie Busch, Alyssa Jackson, Emilie Ngo, Sarah Reuter, and Danielle Tyner. Sarah Reuter added another four points to put UCSC up 16-3 with 5:21 left in the first quarter. Simpson slightly found their footing with a 7-5 edge, but Emilie Ngo capped off the quarter with a shot from deep to put UCSC up 24-10 after the opening 10 minutes.

Simpson surged back into the contest in the second quarter, outscoring UC Santa Cruz 20-6 to tie the game at 30-30 before taking a narrow 35-34 lead into the halftime break. The third quarter was a back and forth battle with even scoring at 17-17 with Bria Tate recording seven points while Ngo and Tyner adding six and four. After the third quarter, Simpson held a 52-51 lead, setting up a solid fourth quarter finale.

Emilie Ngo drilled a three to start the fourth quarter, sparking a strong 15-4 run to put UC Santa Cruz back in the driver seat with 4:23 left to play. The run saw buckets from Ngo, Reuter, Jackson, and Bria Tate with the Slugs shooting 6-of-7 from the field. Emilie Ngo finished the Red Hawks on her own, recording the team's final eight points en route to her career high 33 points in the contest, leading UC Santa Cruz to the 74-62 victory over Simpson.
