
Men's Tennis Falls to TCNJ, Defeats Alvernia In Season Opener

MEDIA, Pa. – The UC Santa Cruz men's tennis team opened their season with a 6-1 loss to the TCNJ Lions on Friday morning. The Slugs later took care of business against Alvernia, earning a 5-0 shutout win to go 1-1 on the day.

Doubles:
- Caden Wong and Gavin Sonntag dropped No. 1 doubles 6-2 while Rocco Melendez and Peter Liang had a tighter match at No. 2, falling 6-4. Benjamin Wang and Max Krijinovski fell at the No. 3 spot 6-3.
- Benjamin Wang was the standout for UCSC in singles, earning a three 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 victory in the No. 2 spot for the team's lone point.
- No. 1 Gavin Sonntag fell 6-2, 6-3 while No. 3 Rocco Melendez forced a three set match but ultimately fell 6-3, 6-7, 6-4.
- No. 4 Peter Liang and No. 6 Caden Wong both fell 6-2, 6-2 while Hari Raghavan fell 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 5 spot.
Doubles:
- The Banana Slugs claimed the doubles point against the Alvernia Golden Wolves after Hari Raghavan and Peter Liang won No. 1 6-1 before Gavin Sonntag and Adam Kahn earned a clean 6-0 victory at No. 2.
- The Banana Slugs coasted through singles with Hari Raghavan winning at No. 1 6-1, 6-2 before Peter Liang took down No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-3. Caden Wong and Adam Kahn both won their matches 6-1, 6-0 to wrap up the day at No. 3 and No. 4.
