SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - In a high-energy Senior Day performance, the UC Santa Cruz women's soccer team dominated Fresno Pacific 4-1 on Tuesday evening in front of an electric home crowd. The Slugs controlled the pace of the game from the opening whistle, outshooting the Sunbirds 20 to 4 (7 to 3 on goal) and earning four corner kicks to build an insurmountable lead. The Banana Slugs spread out the offense with Emilie Brack and Caitlin Walters scoring first half goals while Caroline Alanis and Jade Jones struck in the second half. With the victory secured, UC Santa Cruz now turns its attention to its next matchup on Sunday, October 11 at 11:00am, when they hit the road to face Occidental College in Los Angeles.
How It Happened
The Slugs' offensive display began in the 28th minute when Emilie Brack opened the scoring off a setup from Sharon Alcocer. Alcocer placed a perfectly lofted ball inside the six with Brack heading it home to put UCSC on the board. Just before the break, Caitlin Walters extended the lead to 2-0 by calmly converting a penalty kick in the 42nd minute.
UC Santa Cruz maintained complete control in the second half as Caroline Alanis sent a missile into the upper ninety in the 62nd minute. Jade Jones added a fourth goal off a pass from Kirsten Li in the 71st minute, making a strong run onto the ball before drilling it right into the back of the cage. Fresno Pacific managed to avoid the shutout with a penalty kick from Meghan Connolly in the final minute, but the late goal did little to detract from a memorable Senior Day win for the Slugs.
