How It Happened
The Regals took two shots in the opening five minutes with Ainsley Gove being tested early just 2:18 into the game but Gove was there to make the save to keep things at 0-0. Cal Lutheran continued to press UCSC and eventually found the back of the net in the 16th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Cal Lutheran didn't slow down as they kept firing away before doubling their lead to 2-0 in the 35th minute. The Banana Slugs had a few opportunities in the first half but strong defense from CLU kept most of the action outside of the 18, forcing long shots from Camille Anneet and Amelia Fung with both attempts failing to find the back of the net.
Â
In the second half, UCSC picked up the offensive intensity, connecting passes through the midfield to give themselves a chance but a few errant passes resulted in two break away goals for Cal Lutheran with the Regals connecting in the 51st and 56th minute to go up 4-0. The Banana Slugs managed to outshoot CLU 8-5 in the second half, but they couldn't find the back of the net as Cal Lutheran defeated the Banana Slugs the 4-0 loss at home.
