
Banana Slugs Sit in First After Day One of Slug Shootout

SANTA CRUZ, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs opened the 2025-26 women's swim and dive season with a strong showing on Day 1 of the Slug Shootout. After day one of competition, UC Santa Cruz sits in first place with 439 points with Cal State East Bay in second with 426.5 points and Azusa Pacific in third with 406.5. The Banana Slugs will be back in action tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. for the final day of competition.

In The Results
The women's 400 yard medley relay team opened the 2025-26 season with a second place finish overall, combining for a time of 4:01.26. In the 1,000 free, Piper Strickler was UCSC's top finisher, taking eighth place with a time of 11:13.57. UC Santa Cruz had a strong showing in the 200 free as Katy Hawk picked up the Slugs' first victory of the day, touching the wall in 1:56.29 while Keaton Canaday and Heather O'Brien tied for fifth place with a time of 1:59.43. In the 100 back, Kaitlyn Armstrong and Medha Raghuraman took third and fourth place, respectively, as the duo finished in 1:01.11 and 1:01.26. Sadie Breen was UCSC's top swimmer in the 100 breast, finishing in third place overall with a 1:07.52 while Namya Sarup touched the wall in 1:09.02 to take fifth. In the 50 free, UCSC saw Phoebe Jaggers drop a 25.29 second race to take third place. In the 100 fly, Kirsten Boyle took third place with a time of 59.55 seconds. In the 400 IM, UCSC saw Lily Wolfinger and Sadie Breen take fifth and sixth with times of 4:52.68 and 4:53.21. UCSC closed out the night with a second place finish in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:39.94.
Taylor O'Malley won the 1m dive competition with 236.25 points while Paige Vicente took second with 226.30 points. Notably, Vicente later set the program record with an 11-dive 1m score of 413.80 points.
