Banana Slugs set another school record at NCAAs

GREENSBORO, N.C. - UC Santa Cruz broke another school record on the second day of the NCAA Division III Swim and Dive Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Swimming in the first heat of the 400 Medley relay, Maddy Gruender, Coralie Norenberg, Pia Davila and Tereza Shea finished in 3:53.30. That time was 2.58 seconds faster than the previous school record set in 2022. It also put the Banana Slugs 24th nationally, five places better than their national seeding. Earlier in the day, the quartet also finished 23rd nationally in the 200 Free Relay in 1:37.03.
Gruender swam individually in the 200 Freestyle. Swimming in the sixth heat, Gruender placed sixth in 1:52.33. That time placed the senior 23rd in the country.ÂThe Banana Slugs will race again on Friday in the 800 Free Relay and Gruender will also swim in the 100 Backstroke.
