Banana Slugs open NCAA Championships with school record

GREENSBORO, N.C.—UC Santa Cruz began the 2024 NCAA Division III Swim and Dive Championships on the right foot, with a school-record on Wednesday.

The Banana Slugs were second in their heat of the women's 200 Medley Relay. The quartet of Maddy Gruender, Coralie Norenberg, Pia Davila and Tereza Shea finished in a time of 1:45.69. The time was 0.7 seconds faster than the school record set in 2022. Shea's leg of the 50 Free was in 23.81 and improved her own individual school record.
Overall, the quartet finished 24th in the country.

The NCAA Championships continue Thursday morning with the 200 Free and 400 Medley Relays and Gruender competing individually in the 200 Free.
