
Four Banana Slugs selected for NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS--Â Four student-athletes have qualified for the 2024 Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, as announced by the NCAA on Wednesday. The championships will take place March 20-23 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.Â
Pia Davila, Maddy Gruender, Coralie Norenberg, and Tereza Shea will represent the school and compete in the 400-yard Freestyle relay. The quartet finished fourth at the recent PCSC Championships in a school record time of 3:28.68. Gruender will also compete individually in the 200 Freestyle. In her last trip to nationals two years ago, Gruender finished 25th in the 200.
"I'm so proud of all of them," said head coach Matt Crawford. "This is a perfect step for our program."
It is the most student-athletes UC Santa Cruz has sent to Nationals since 2005, when the Banana Slugs placed 32nd in the nation. The Banana Slugs are currently ranked eighth in Division III's West-Midwest-South region by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).

A total of 319 women will compete in the championships over 4 days. Denison University are the defending champions.
