VENTURA, CA-- UC Santa Cruz women's golf opened their 20th anniversary season with an eighth place finish at the California Intercollegiate Meet held at the Olivas Links in Ventura.
The Banana Slugs finished with a 36-hole team score of 632. The field included three teams ranked in the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Division III poll: No. 4 Redlands, No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer, and No. 6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Senior
Alyssa Yee led the team with a 3-over 146, good enough for 13th place. She shot 75 in Tuesday's second round, with two birdies.
Fellow senior
Mikaela Paracuelles was with a 17-over 161.
Jiya Dalal had the same score in her first college tournament, tying the teammates for 42nd place. Junior
Tani Ng and first year
Elana McGrew both scored a 20-over 164 to tie for 49th.
Isabella Esquivel (33-over 177) rounded out the Banana Slug contingent.
Pomona-Pitzer won the team event with a score of 565, ten strokes better than Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. CMS's Stella Cheng took Medalist honors by one stroke after bettering par both days for a total of 138.
UC Santa Cruz stays on the road as they travel to Louisiana to compete in the American Southwest Conference preview at the Oak Wing course in Alexandria.
