Banana Slugs beat Vixens to finish regular season

Lauren McGuire had her first career multi-goal game
Box Score SWEET BRIAR, VA-- UC Santa Cruz Women's Soccer finished today's match against Sweet Briar College with a win of 10-0. 

The team started the game with kickoff. Right in the beginning, there were shots to the goal by Delaney Boman and Michelle Matta. In the match's first six minutes, Kathleen Byambasuren made a pass into space for Caitlin Walters to run and get the ball in a 1V1 with the Sweet Briar keeper. Walters shoots and scores in the bottom left side (1-0). There were back-to-back goals in the next few minutes of the game. Alexandra Torres made an excellent high ball pass right in place for Rylie Van Kleek to steal the ball away from the Sweet Briar keeper and finish the shot (2-0, 12:38). The next goal was a one-two play from Walters to Byambasuren, who took the shot and made it in the goal's top right corner (3-0, 15:14). The goal after was a beautiful assist by Byambasuren, who passed a through ball to Matta who scored a low ball (4-0, 19:39). The last goal of the half was by Van Kleek, who was able to finally put the ball in making the score 5-0 (23:58). 

The second half started with Sweet Briar having a kickoff. From there, the Banana Slugs were making shots left and right. The first goal of the half was from a corner kick from the Banana Slugs and Lauren McGuire was able to one-touch the ball into the goal (6-0, 52:23). With an assist from Walters, McGuire had another opportunity with an open shot to the goal and made their second goal of the game (7-0, 66:17). Graduating senior Alexia Santos, who usually plays defense, was able to score their first career goal with an assist from Walters making the score 8-0 (70:30). The next goal was a cross from Van Kleek to Torres, who had a great first touch and made the shot (9-0, 72:28). It was the first college goal for Torres.
The last goal of the game was a floater from Matta (10-0, 80:31). The game ended with a final attempt on goal from Sweet Briar and a save by Mia Linville, who finished with a season-high five saves. 

The Banana Slugs stay in Virginia to play Salisbury on Friday morning in the Coast-To-Coast Conference semifinal in Fredericksburg.
