Box Score SAN RAFAEL-  UC Santa Cruz stepped up in competition, but couldn't get their shots to fall in a 2-0 loss at Division II Dominican.

The Banana Slugs fell to 6-3-2 on the season.

Dominican's Gabrielle Wampler scored the opening goal on a penalty in the 21st minute. Bronwyn Eyre had two great opportunities for UC Santa Cruz in the first half. Her shot in the 20th minute was blocked and her attempt in the 24th minute went over the bar. Karina Bulli had the Banana Slugs' best chance with 5:28 before halftime, but her low shot was saved and the Penguins went into the break up 1-0.

The hosts added an insurance goal nine minutes after the break when they pounced on a rebound, accounting for the game's final score. The Penguins controlled the chances in the last half hour, but UC Santa Cruz's defense held them at bay. Alyssa Diaz-Tucker finished with three saves.

The Banana Slugs return to the Lower East Field for Senior Celebration Day on Saturday when they play Lincoln University at noon.
