UC Santa Cruz Track and Field begins an exciting time in program history at the Kim Duyst Invitational, hosted by Stanislaus State this Saturday in Turlock. A team composed primarily of distance runners will see a debut of sprints, hurdles, jumps, and throws in competition for both the Men and Women Banana Slugs.
Fresh off a track personal best in the 5K last weekend, NCAA Cross Country qualifier Shannon McClish will return to the track in the 1500m. She will be joined by sub 5:00 performers Raissa Boysen, Autumn Burton, and Lizzie Meredith. Many of the distance runners will double back in either the 800m or 5K where 800m school record holder Sydney Gutierrez will make her track 5K debut after an impressive Cross Country season.
Sophomore Nancy Alvarado-Zavaleta will make her Banana Slug debut in both the 100m and Long Jump this weekend. She will be accompanied in the jumps by fellow sophomore Madison Wright who will participate in the High Jump. We will see the first action from freshman thrower Jordynn Dorado as she takes on the Shot Put and Discus.
