Second half goal allows Cal Lutheran to beat UCSC

Box Score

THOUSAND OAKS - Bri Pinal's goal ten minutes after halftime held up as Cal Lutheran defeated UC Santa Cruz 1-0 Monday afternoon.

UCSC (3-9) was outshot 9-6 against the Regals, who improved to 8-1-1.

The Banana Slugs held possession early and got off the first two shots of the game. The two teams played even terms the first 45 minutes, and the Slugs' Allie Mandel got a save in the 44th minute to keep the game scoreless going to the break.

In the second half, UCSC held off an early Regals barrage in the first five minutes of the half. UCSC went on a break right after, but both Claire Lim and Natalie Filippi had their shots saved by substitute goalie Frankie Allegra.

Another Allegra save led to a CLU counter, and Pinal took a pass from  Kali Youngdahl and shot home what would be the only goal of the game.

Sandra Parhami had the last UCSC chance in the 86th minute with a nice turn in front of goal, but sent the shot high.

UC Santa Cruz next opens a two-game roadtrip vs. Division II opponents, beginning with Chico State Friday night.
