#6 Panthers Beat #21 Banana Slugs 6-3

WHITTIER, CA -- UC Santa Cruz played their first match in fifteen days as they took on ITA #6 Middlebury College in Whittier. Although the Banana Slugs won two out of three double matches, the Panthers won 6-3.
In their last match, UC Santa Cruz lost to Kenyon College 5-4 on March 8th in Whittier while the Panthers defeated Pacific University 9-0 yesterday in Whittier.
Of the six singles matches played, the Panthers won five and the Banana Slugs won one. The #5 singles match between Sean Hollister of UC Santa Cruz and Courtney Mountfield of Middlebury was the tightest singles match of the day. Hollister defeated Mountfield 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. In the #1 singles match, ITA #15 Ari Smolyar of the Panthers defeated Max Littlejohn of the Banana Slugs 6-3, 6-1. In the #2 singles match, ITA #25 Noah Farrell of Middlebury defeated Chad Stone of UC Santa Cruz 6-3, 4-3 (ret.). In the #3 singles match, Palmer Campbell of the Panthers defeated Kyle Richter of the Banana Slugs 6-2, 6-4. In the #4 singles match, ITA #44 Jackson Frons of Middlebury defeated Alexander Flora of UC Santa Cruz 6-2, 6-3. In the #6 singles match, Allen Jackson of Middlebury defeated Jimmy Soper of UC Santa Cruz 6-2, 6-0.
The Banana Slugs won two doubles matches while the Panthers won one. In the #1 doubles match, the Banana Slugs' team of Littlejohn and Richter defeated the Panthers' team of Campbell and Peter Heidrich 8-6. In the #3 doubles match, Chetan Munugala and Adrian Sirovica of UC Santa Cruz defeated William De Quant and Chris Frost 8-6. In the #2 doubles match, the Panthers' Farrell and Smolyar defeated the Banana Slugs' Derek Levchenko and Stone 8-4.
