Engineers Top Banana Slugs 6-3

WHITTIER, CA -- The Banana Slugs continued their Southern California road swing as they took Rensselaer Polytechnic. The Engineers won four of the six singles matches played as the Engineers won 6-3 over the Banana Slugs.
Both teams were coming off losses in their last match. The Banana Slugs lost to Whittier College 7-2 on Saturday while the Engineers lost 8-1 to Massachusetts Institute of Technology yesterday in Claremont.
Each team won three singles matches. In the #1 singles match, Courtney Lymburner of UC Santa Cruz defeated Casey Olsen of Rensselaer Polytechnic 6-2, 7-5. In the #2 singles match, Soph Lundeberg of the Banana Slugs defeated Emily Laurilliard of Rensselaer Polytechnic 6-2, 6-0. In the #5 singles match, Islay Fossett of UC Santa Cruz defeated Pooja Ganesh of Rensselaer Polytechnic 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. In the #3 singles match, Melanie Frank of the Engineers defeated Sylvia Brummitt of the Banana Slugs 6-0, 6-1. In the #4 singles match, Amanda Alexander of Rensselaer Polytechnic defeated Katy Collins of UC Santa Cruz 6-1, 0-6, 6-2. In the #6 singles match, Emily Aaldenberg of the Engineers defeated Stephanie Graziano of the Banana Slugs 6-2, 6-4.
Rensselaer won all three doubles matches. In the #2 doubles match, the Engineers' team of Alexander and Olsen defeated the Banana Slugs' team of Brummitt and Lundeberg 8-3. In the #3 doubles match, Aaldenberg and Ganesh of Rensselaer Polytechnic defeated Fossett and Zoe Middleton-Brook of UC Santa Cruz 8-2. The tightest doubles match was the #1 doubles match between Frank and Laurilliard of Rensselaer Polytechnic and Collins and Lymburner of UC Santa Cruz. The Engineers won the match 8-4.

The Banana Slugs will have their next match tomorrow as they take on Lewis & Clark College in Whittier at Whittier Narrows Tennis Club. The first serve is set for 12:30 pm.
