Slugs Fall to Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, CA -- Santa Clara, CA- On Sunday, UC Santa Cruz dropped a 7-0 decision to Division I Santa Clara University. The Slugs started strong and almost took the doubles point from the Broncos. At No. 2 doubles, Freshman Alexandra Scotten and Sophomore Laura Wade won their match 8-2 over Cox and Wagner. Sophomores Rachel Shinto and Nicole Hannouche at No. 3 doubles battled to the end, but lost a close match 9-7 to O'Haren and Zanieski. At No. 1, Sophomore Ariana Mokhtari and Senior Taylor Mannix lost 8-3.
In singles play, the Slugs competed well and lost some very close matches. Taylor Mannix competed hard at No. 2 before dropping her match 7-5, 6-2 to Lamble, and No. 3 Alexandra Scotten lost a close 6-4, 6-4 match to McGeorge. At No. 4 singles, Laura Wade almost took the first set against Agra but fell 7-6 (1), 6-0 in the end. Up next for UCSC is the first home match of the season against Sierra College on February 5 at 1pm.
