NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The UC Santa Cruz men's soccer team struck first with a goal from Erik Moreno Herrera in the 36th minute but couldn't hold off a second-half push from Carleton College as the two teams fought to a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon.
How It Happened
Moreno Herrera opened the scoring for the Banana Slugs at the 35:17 mark, finishing off an assist from Luke Williams, who created space by dribbling in from the right wing before setting up Moreno Herrera for his second goal of the season.
Carleton answered in the 64th minute with their equalizer, fighting through heavy defensive pressure from UCSC to tie the game at 1-1.
UC Santa Cruz dominated the statistical battle, outshooting the Knights 20-9, including a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Banana Slugs also generated significant pressure on set pieces, taking 12 corner kicks compared to Carleton's seven.
With the draw, UC Santa Cruz moves to 3-3-4 overall on the season with five contests remaining in the regular season.
