
Women's Basketball Falls to Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks

THOUSAND OAKS, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz fell to the Regals of California Lutheran University 61-42 on Sunday evening. Claire Galbo led the team with eight points and nine rebounds on the night while Emilie Ngo and Alexa Litchev both had eight points with four boards. UC Santa Cruz will be back in action on Dec. 17 at Whitworth University at 1:00 p.m.

How It Happened
The Banana Slugs started the contest well, taking a 16-15 lead in the first quarter. Alyssa Jackson and Alexa Litchev got the scoring started as the duo both made layups with UCSC working to and 11-4 lead following additional buckets from Jackson and Emilie Ngo. Cal Lutheran was able to rally back, outscoring the Slugs 11-5 for the remainder of the quarter but UCSC led 16-15 heading into the second quarter.
UC Santa Cruz struck first with a jumper from Emilie Ngo 12 seconds into the quarter but a three from CLU tied the contest at 18-18. Alexa Litchev put UCSC back in front with a hook shot but Cal Lutheran went on a 12-6 run to take a 30-26 lead into halftime.
The Regals controlled the action out of the break, going on a 12-3 run to extend their lead to 42-29. The Slugs narrowly outscored CLU 5-4 down the stretch of the third but the Regals still led by double digits at 46-34. Cal Lutheran couldn't be slowed down in the fourth, outscoring UCSC 15-8 in the fourth, giving the Regals the 61-42 victory.
