Amanda Inserra became the school's career three-point leader as UC Santa Cruz women's basketball ended their season with a 51-37 loss to Mary Washington in the Coast-To-Coast Conference tournament semifinal.
UC Santa Cruz went to 10-15 on the season, while Mary Washington improved to 16-8 and advanced to Saturday's conference final.
The Eagles opened with a 3-0 lead, but consecutive three-pointers from Inserra gave UC Santa Cruz the lead at 6-3. After Mary Washington increased their lead to 10 (17-7), a pair of Inserra free-throws and consecutive layups by
Lilli Hammons and Talysha WIlkerson produced a 6-0 run that got UC Santa Cruz back to within 4 with 6:18 until halftime. The Eagles answered however with an 11-2 run the rest of the half to lead 28-15 at the break. Mary Washington then outscored the Banana Slugs 16-8 in the third quarter to push their lead to 21.
Inserra finished with 10 points and has 220 career threes, one better than former teammate
Ashley Kowack. Inserra also passed Marcy Harrell (1985-88) for sixth place on the school's career scoring chart with 928 points.
Alexa Litchev had nine points along with five rebounds and three of UC Santa Cruz's eight steals.
Jenna Gorton had team-highs of 9 rebounds and four assists.
