UC Santa Cruz finished off the 2023 Slug Fest in style, sweeping rival Cal Lutheran in the afternoon before defeating nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus 3-1.
UC Santa Cruz goes to 4-0 on the young season.

Gabrielle Houston. "I knew today was going to be a challenge with back-to-back matches vs. two tough teams, and the team fully rose to the occasion and played their hearts out."
In the early match at Kaiser Permanente Arena, the Banana Slugs looked strong in every facet of the match to defeat the Regals 25-22, 25-20, 25-21. The Banana Slugs outhit CLU .280 to .171.
It was just the second time in 23 all-time meetings UC Santa Cruz's had swept the Regals, who were visiting Santa Cruz for the first time since 2005.
In the evening match on campus, UC Santa Cruz hit .248 overall and served nine aces in the 25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20 victory over the Gusties, who came to Santa Cruz ranked 17th in the nation.
Peyton Tazelaar led UC Santa Cruz against Gustavus with team-highs of 15 kills and 15 digs.
Kate Lau had 14 kills and 13 digs. The Banana Slugs had 12 total blocks, led by
Vanessa Ojeikere's 7.
Sydney May had 23 assists and 14 digs to make the All Tournament Team,as did
Drew Bryant (8 kills, 4 blocks)
Houston said "the coaches were asking the team to make a lot of shifts and changes during both matches,. They adapted quickly and were able to execute the game plan. We had great serving and passing which allowed us to maintain pressure on our opponents and run our offense. It was definitely a great day and I am incredibly excited for what the future will bring."
The Banana Slugs close the weekend with a match against Hamline Sunday at 1pm at the West Field House.
