LOS ANGELES-- UC Santa Cruz women's volleyball opened its second Southern California roadtrip of 2023 with an emphatic 3-0 win (25-21, 25-11, 25-15) over the Occidental Tigers. The Banana Slugs improve to 8-3 on the year.

Sydney May's ace started a 7-3 run to end the set and give UC Santa Cruz a 1-0 lead. The Banana Slugs opened Set Two on a 7-0 run, bookended by a pair of kills from
Kate Lau to take control early. The lead grew to 13-2 forcing the Tigers to use both their timeouts, but the Banana Slugs kept playing perfect volleyball and hit .536 to pull away and go up 2-0.
UC Santa Cruz went to its bench early in Set Three. The Tigers kept it close to start the set, but with the Banana Slugs leading 15-12, another kill by Lau started an 8-1 run that made it 23-13 before the Banana Slugs coasted to win the set and match.
The Banana Slugs outhit the Tigers .319 to .042 for the match, and had a 7.0-4.0 advantage in blocks.
Kelly Ann Greene had a team-high ten kills and four block assists. Lau added nine kills and
Drew Bryant had eight. May dished out 21 assists. 17 Banana Slugs played in the match.
The Banana Slugs next head to Thousand Oaks to take part in the Cal Lutheran Invite on Friday and Saturday.
