Fifth-Year forward Will Whitty was named the Coast-To-Coast Conference's Medal of Inspiration recipient as announced by the Conference on Wednesday.
The award is given only on special occasion to athletes from the C2C who have "persevered through extraordinary circumstances and whose determination, devotion and passion are exemplary, revered among their peers and worth of special recognition." Earlier this month, Whitty was also voted Most Inspirational student-athlete by the UC Santa Cruz head coaches. He is the first Banana Slug to win the Medal.
"Even after multiple injuries, surgeries, and rehabs, Will's commitment to UC Santa Cruz Athletics and our basketball program never wavered," said Head Coach Matt Malone. "Ultimately, he was not able to make it back on the court to compete, but he never missed a day of practice, game, or meeting. He became an invaluable resource as a student-assistant coach helping with everything from stats, to film, to social media."
