
Banana Slugs say farewell to Seniors

No. 14 UC Santa Cruz took a break from their Division III schedule taking on Ottawa University (Arizona).
The Banana Slugs fell 3-0 to Ottawa, the No. 4 team in the NAIA who improved to 8-4.
It was Senior Night for the Banana Slugs, who honored Zachary Thompson, Maxwell Mednick, Trevor Jackson, Colton Jeffrey and Tennessee Fulks after their last home match.
Set One had 11 ties before Ottawa closed on a 4-1 run to take the set. Set Two had six ties, but the Spirit took control with a 6-1 run that made it 23-17. The teams then traded points until Ottawa put the set away. Set Three was close early, but a 6-0 Ottawa run that had three aces pushed their lead to 14-6. With the lead 16-8, Colby Hurdle tried to serve UC Santa Cruz back in the match and a 6-0 run got the hosts to within  16-14. Ottawa responded with a 4-0 run that made it 20-14 and they saw out the set for the road win.

Ottawa outhit UC Santa Cruz .369 to .110. The Spirit outblocked UC Santa Cruz 12 to 3. Noy Fisher had a team-high seven kills and Jackson added six.Â
UC Santa Cruz (17-8) now closes the season with eight Division III games, starting next weekend at the Cal Lutheran Tournament.
