Three tough Division III opponents visit this week as UC Santa Cruz hosts the New Year's Classic. The Banana Slugs welcome Wisconsin-Platteville, New York University, and University of Northwestern (Minn.) to the West Field House on the UCSC campus.
UC Santa Cruz is 5-6 on the season. In their most recent outing, the Banana Slugs defeated Hamilton College 61-60 to close the December Classic at Kaiser Permanente Arena. First-year Alexa Litchev sealed the win with a pair of free-throws with 0.5 seconds left.
Ariel Anderson leads the Banana Slugs with 9.1 points a game. Litchev averages 8.7 points a game plus 2.9 assists.
 
UW Platteville
The Pioneers enter the week with a 5-3 record. Sophomore Ella Mackiewicz leads three Pioneers in double figures with a 14.8 points/game average. Overall, UW Platteville is sixth in the nation for field goal percentage.

NYU
The Violets are 9-0 and the consensus top-ranked team in Division III. NYU leads Division III in assists/game and are in the top ten nationally in both rebound margin and scoring margin. Grad transfer Morgan Morrison leads the Violets with 14.6 points a game.

Northwestern
The UNW Eagles are 7-4 on the year. Lexi Hagen averages 14.6 points and 8.8 rebounds to lead the team. It's the third time since 2016 that the Eagles come west to play UC Santa Cruz, with the series tied 1-1.
