
Banana Slugs finish fourth at C2C Tournament

SALISBURY, MD– UC Santa Cruz lost 3-0 (16-25, 14-25, 16-25) to Christopher Newport in the consolation game at the Coast-To-Coast Volleyball Tournament on Saturday at Salisbury University.
The Banana Slugs wrap up the season 13-18 after their third loss to the Captains (22-12) this year.
The first set was close before Christopher Newport took the momentum after a 4-0 run midway gave them a 19-13 lead. After another cold start in the second set, UC Santa Cruz got within three points, at 12-9, thanks to consecutive kills by Ashley Magley. It was still a three-point game, at 14-11, before the Captains had a 6-0 run to get to 20-11 and hold off the Banana Slugs' comeback.
In the third set, the match was close again until the Captains had a 5-0 run that gave them a 16-11 lead and they never trailed after that to finish the match.

Magley led UC Santa Cruz with 5 kills, while Peyton Tazelaar had four kills, plus an ace and a team-high eight digs in her final match at UC Santa Cruz. Olly Gordon had a block and finished at 1.03 blocks/set this season, the highest blocking average for a Banana Slug this century.
