School records galore as Cross Country races at UC Riverside

RIVERSIDE- The UC Santa Cruz Cross Country team showed their strong preseason training paid off by competing wonderfully in a very talent-laden early season competition.
The men and women each set new school records in team time running against a mostly Division I field at the UC Riverside Invite.
The women ran a combined time of 1:51:16 in the 6K race, with an average of 22:16 to place 23rd. Overall, Ash Baudin placed 68th out of 260 runners with a PR of 21:35.2, the 5th fastest 6K time in program history. Riley Martel-Phillips was 75th with a time of 21:39, a one minute improvement over her prior PR.
 Faith Dyogi crossed the line in 22:34.2, making her the second fastest freshman in program history. Hanna Hekkanen finished with a PR of 22:39.2, Iris Abegglen had a 22:48.3 in her season debut, and Andrea Gallardo finished in 23:33.6.
Other Banana Slugs running were Helena Janku who crossed in 23:10.5, Cheryl Chuang, who finished in 23:17.1, Sage Simms in 23:26.7, and Monica Fonseca who completed the UC Santa Cruz contingent in 24:30.5

For the nationally-ranked men's squad, the team had a combined time of 2:04:15 with an average time of 24:51. Transfer Oliver Chang placed 42nd with a time of 24:29.2 in his Banana Slug debut. It was the second-fastest 8K ever in program history. C2C champion Eric Jackson had a new PR to place 48th in 24:32.7.Â

Reigning conference champ Eric Jackson set a new PR Luke Holland was 69th at 24:47.8, the fastest 8K ever by a Banana Slug freshman. Other great runs included Walter Teitelbaum (25:05.7), Eric Anderson (25:19.2), and Casey Orton (25:27.5).

Finishing the record-setting day for UC Santa Cruz was Raymond Ingersoll (25:38.0), Hayden Johnson (25:49.2), Holden Spencer (26:07.7), and Brett Bailey (26:25.5).
The Banana Slugs race more tough competiton in two weeks at the UOP Invite in Lodi.
