Box Score SANTA CLARA- Facing their toughest opponent all season, No. 18 UC Santa Cruz lost to Division I Santa Clara 74-30 Sunday afternoon in Santa Clara.
It was the first loss of the year for Santa Cruz (7-1) who opened the year winning their first seven games for the first time in school history.
The Broncos had a 33-0 run midway through the first half to take control of the game. The Banana Slugs finally broke through with a
Lilli Hammons jumper. That started a 9-2 UC Santa Cruz run and the Slugs closed the half with a 13-6 run, making the deficit 41-15 at the break. The hosts built their lead again in the second half,
Amanda Inserra led UC Santa Cruz with 11 points and seven rebounds. Hammons added six points off the bench. Santa Clara improved to 7-4 on the year, and were led by Lara Edmanson's 16 points and ten rebounds.
After Finals Week, the Banana Slugs return to Division III competition on December 16
th when they host Linfield.
