Banana Slugs go 1-2 at Whitman Fall Invite
WALLA WALLA, WA- The UC Santa Cruz women's tennis team had three dual matches at the Whitman Fall Invite.
UC Santa Cruz opened the Invite with a tough 5-4 loss to Lewis-Clark State College. The Banana Slugs opened with a 2-1 lead in doubles, thanks to 8-4 wins by both Sara Beckman/Natalie Sprenger and Daniela Christian/Julia Chiaradia Azzi. Beckman and Sprenger also won their singles matches. They bounced back with a 9-0 sweep over Whitworth on Saturday.  Azzi teamed with First-Year Meghana Damojipurapu while Sophia Nguyen and Jolie Seemayer were paired up, and both new duos came away with wins. All the singles wins were straight sets as UC Santa Cruz held Whitworth to a combined 14 points.
On Sunday, the Banana Slugs closed the weekend with a tough 8-1 loss to hosts Whitman. Beckman was the lone winner, triumphing over Ilina Jha at No. 1 singles in straight sets.
UC Santa Cruz returns home to host their Invitational at West Valley College the final weekend of October.
