Banana Slugs close regular season with win over UC Merced

UC Santa Cruz came to play on their home turf against the Bobcats this Tuesday. The sun set on their 2-0 game where the women's soccer seniors said goodbye to four years repping the Slugs.

The Banana Slugs came out fierce in the first period with an early goal in the 16th minute by sophomore Bronwyn Eyre. Katie Herm, a senior midfielder, assisted Eyre in her goal. UC Santa Cruz didn't take their foot off the gas in the first period with multiple shots on goal. Amanda Scott, Payton Cichowski, Tatiana Fernandez all put pressure on UC Merced's goalie in the first period. Senior goalie Alyssa Diaz-Tucker defended the goal successfully in the first period, saving a shot on goal near the end of the period.

The second period reflected the first period's excitement with three quick shots on goal in the first fifteen minutes by Angela Bradbury, Arianna LePage and Amanda Scott. In the middle of the second quarter the Santa Cruz women hammered their win in with another goal. Emily De Los Santos assisted Scott for a long-awaited score after they had pressured the goal with multiple attacks throughout the game. Midfielder Mikayla Win got in her first action of the season.
Overall, UC Santa Cruz had a 21-4 shot advantage in the contest. Diaz-Tucker and Makenna Curtis each were in goal for 45 minutes and had a save each.

The game ended in a classic Santa Cruz sunset that casted over the field. The seniors celebrated their final win at UC Santa Cruz with a beautifully colored sky and comrades. The audience was lively and Sammy the Slug made an appearance with some impressive dance moves.
The Banana Slugs will next play in the Coast-To-Coast Conference Tournament in Virginia from November 3rd-6th.
